Amazing Experiences

Friday night we went to dinner as a group (minus two that were sick).  Beijing is famous for Peking Duck.  So... when in Rome... It was delicious! It was far different than I imagined.  They serve it with these tortilla like things, I joked that it was Chinese Fajitas! Our guide ordered for us and everything was perfect.

I hope you're not reading this over breakfast b/c the next few photos will probably turn your stomach.  We took a walk through the night market after dinner.  You can find ANYTHING on a stick there.  You pick your stick of uhm... bat or scorpion and they grill it up while you wait.  There were hundreds of people having a nice snack up and down the street.  You cannot imagine the smell and the sight of it all.  Ick.  I was glad to get on back to the hotel! :-)

This morning we traveled about an hour to one of the Eight wonders of the world.  The Great Wall.  It was absolutely breathtaking.  When you think of the history behind it and how old it really is.  It's over a 1800 years old, this particular part of the wall is pretty new... it's only 600 years old or so.

Rob wore a bright shirt so I wouldn't lose him :-)

Since we've started this process I've seen family after family climb The Great Wall and talk about how steep it was and how "uneven" the steps were.  HA!! Some (very few) are normal steps and others, well the step up was around my waist.  Rob did AMAZING! He pushed it up to the second tower, I hung out at the top of the first.  Apparently Americans are like celebrities here.  I must've been asked to have my picture made with no less than 40 people.  I was amazed at the variety of people climbing up the wall.  I saw woman carrying an infant, couldn't be more than a couple months old.  Older people, young people.  One woman was climbing in HEELS!!!

Here you can get an idea how steep they were.

This is the view going up! EEK!
If you zoom in, you can find a fluorescent colored shirt, you might can see Rob.  He went all the way to the tallest tower in this picture.
Coming down wasn't easy either, the hand rails were HOTTTTTT!!!

At the bottom there is a Taoist Temple and you can get these red ribbons and write a wish on them and tie it to something on the wall.  It's really cool to look at them and read the names and wishes.

It's been an eventful day but not too exhausting.  We are adjusting to the time change well.  Tomorrow we have to be up and about early to catch a flight to ZhengZhou.  That's where we will meet our girls! It's SO very exciting and SO incredibly scary.  Please pray for peace, for love, for God's grace to bubble up! Pray especially for the girls and all that is in front of them.  I'm worried more about them than our feelings.  Please Please pray for the family that is sick.  Hoping God's healing hand will work a miracle before the flight tomorrow.

With Love and Excitement!
Jenn & Rob
